Supply and Drain Lines Fail in Opposite Ways
Both lines are buried and both are pipes, but they break down nothing alike — and mixing them up wastes a service visit.
Water supply lines — this page — deliver clean water under pressure into the property: off the city main, past the meter, down your private line, and through interior piping to every fixture. Trouble here looks like leaking, pressure fading everywhere at once, rusty water, or a bill that jumps without explanation.
Drain and sewer lines move wastewater out by gravity. Their failures look different: sluggish drains, gurgling fixtures, backups. If that matches what you’re seeing, the right pages are sewer line repair or drain cleaning — not this one.
A quick sorting rule: water appearing where it has no business being (a leak, a damp patch, a pipe that hisses) points to supply. Water refusing to leave where it should (a sink that won’t empty) points to drainage. Describe it in those terms when you call and the diagnosis starts on the right foot.
